28 June 2004 New inquiry into Water Pricing

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has decided to conduct a further inquiry into the current Periodic Review 2004 of water price limits being conducted by the Office of Water Services (Ofwat).

The inquiry is timed to fall between the announcement by Ofwat of draft price limits on 5 August 2004 and of final price limits on 2 December 2004. The aim will be to gauge the reaction of stakeholders to the draft price limits, and to an extent also to assess how the Periodic Review has been conducted, particularly looking at how it has taken - or should take - into account  long-term planning for climate change and environmental improvements.

The Committee invites all interested parties to submit written evidence which addresses these matters. The deadline for the submission of evidence is Friday 24 September 2004. More information about the format of submissions is given below.

More information about the Periodic Review 2004 can be found on the Ofwat website, at: http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/

Evidence should be submitted in Word or WordPerfect formats, and should be sent by e-mail to combsl@parliament.uk. The body of the e-mail must include a contact name, telephone number and postal address. The e-mail should also make clear who the submission is from.

Submissions should be as brief as possible, and certainly no more than 3,000 words. Paragraphs should be numbered for ease of reference, and the document should include a brief executive summary. Those submitting evidence are reminded that evidence should be original work, not previously published or circulated elsewhere. Once submitted no public use should be made of it, but those wishing to publish their evidence before it is published by the Committee are invited to contact the Clerk of the Committee to obtain permission to do so.
