20 April 2004 Bovine tuberculosis: new inquiry announced

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has decided to take further evidence about bovine tuberculosis.

The terms of reference of the inquiry are:

"To consider solutions to the problem of bovine TB, including particularly progress made towards developing a vaccine. The Committee will consider a number of other matters, including the experience of Ireland, and the role played by trace elements."

The Committee will take oral evidence about this matter on Wednesday 26 May. Details of those invited to give evidence will be announced in due course.

The Committee invites interested parties to submit written evidence which addresses the terms of reference prior to the oral evidence session. Thus the deadline for the submission of evidence is Monday 17 May 2004.

Written evidence should be submitted in Word or WordPerfect formats, and sent by e-mail to devineg@parliament.uk. The body of the e-mail must include a contact name, telephone number and postal address. The e-mail should also make clear who the submission is from.

Submissions should be as brief as possible, and certainly no more than 3,000 words. Paragraphs should be numbered for ease of reference, and the document should include a brief executive summary. Those submitting evidence are reminded that evidence should be original work, not previously published or circulated elsewhere. Once submitted no public use should be made of it, but those wishing to publish their evidence before it is published by the Committee are invited to contact the Clerk of the Committee to obtain permission to do so.
