The Work of Ofsted

The Education and Skills Select Committee will hold its next meeting with HM Chief Inspector David Bell on Wednesday 3 November 2004. This meeting is part of the Committee's annual scrutiny of the work of Ofsted.

The Committee would welcome written submissions on the work of Ofsted, including, but not limited to, Ofsted’s proposals for a ‘new relationship with schools’ including the role of self-evaluation, the relationship between inspection and improvement, the expansion of Ofsted’s remit into the inspection of children’s services and Ofsted’s inspection responsibilities for post-16 education. These submissions will assist the Committee in preparing for the meeting with the Chief Inspector, and may be published alongside the transcript of the meeting. Submissions should arrive no later than Monday 25 October 2004.

Each submission should begin with a short summary in bullet point form. The paragraphs in the text of the submission should be numbered. A guide for written submissions to the Committee may be found on the parliamentary website at:
