Evidence Session

Evidence Session on Medical Care for the Armed Forces

Derek Twigg MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, will be joined by Ben Bradshaw MP, Minister of State at the Department of Health, in the final evidence session of the Defence Committee’s inquiry into Medical Care for the Armed Forces on Tuesday 27 November at 10.30 am in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House.

The ministers will be joined by officials from the Ministry of Defence, including the Surgeon-General, and the Department of Health, to answer questions on a broad range of subjects relating to healthcare for the Armed Forces.

Since June, the Committee has visited a number of military and NHS medical establishments around the country where Servicemen and women are being treated, including the military wing of Selly Oak Hospital, a Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Edinburgh and a Territorial Army Field Hospital, training to be deployed on operations.

The Committee is also holding a web forum under the new Parliamentary processes for conducting e-consultations during the evidence gathering process. Serving and ex-Forces personnel and families have been among the number of contributors on the forum (which runs to the end of November). The Committee looks forward to more contributions as the inquiry reaches its final stage. The web forum can be found at:

The Committee was nominated on 13 July 2005. The Defence Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Ministry of Defence and its associated public bodies.
