Relaunch of Web Forum

The Defence Committee is going to complete its inquiry into Medical Care for the Armed Forces by reopening its web forum next week. Following the success of an extended web forum in the summer, the Committee will ask contributors to focus on issues of mental health, co-operation between the MoD and the NHS and the use of Reserve personnel.

The Committee hopes to hear opinions from serving personnel and veterans, Service families and healthcare professionals as well as members of the public who have been following the inquiry since it started in May.

Chairman of the Defence Committee, Rt Hon James Arbuthnot MP, says, "We were very grateful for some excellent responses to the web forum at the start of our inquiry. Since then, we have gathered more evidence and visited a number of Service and NHS medical establishments. We hope that people can use this re-opening of our web forum to comment on the written and oral evidence we have gathered over the last five months, especially in the areas of mental health and the use of Reservists, in order to help us shape our recommendations to the Ministry of Defence."

All written and oral evidence can be seen at The forum will open on Monday 5 November, and will run to the end of the month. Anyone who wants to participate can do so at:

Oral Evidence

The final evidence session of the inquiry will be held at 10.30 am on Tuesday 27 November, in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House. The Committee will hear from Defence Minister Derek Twigg MP and Health Minister Ben Bradshaw MP, as well as officials from the MoD and the Department of Health.

The Committee was nominated on 13 July 2005. The Defence Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Ministry of Defence and its associated public bodies.
