Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Committee

21 February 2008 (PN 24)

The Business & Enterprise Committee today announces the first oral evidence session of its inquiry into trade and investment relations with Turkey and the economic consequences of its possible accession to the EU.

UK Trade and Investment, the Government's trade support body, has identified Turkey as one of its key emerging markets on which it has been focusing activity. The session will look at the opportunities for greater trade and investment between the UK and Turkey, and the trade support available for UK businesses interested in Turkey. It will also look at the barriers that exist, as brought to the Committee's attention in the evidence received by the Committee.

The Committee will also inquire into the prospects for Turkey's accession to the EU and progress so far, and seek the Government's views on the likely consequences of accession, focusing on economic aspects.
