Turkey: Trade & EU Accession

Lord Jones to give evidence to Business & Enterprise Committee

The Business & Enterprise Committee will hold its third oral evidence session next week as part of its inquiry into Turkey: Trade & EU Accession.

Subjects likely to be covered include:

• Turkey as a market for UK firms and its economic prospects;
• Prospects for Turkish EU accession, and developing the existing customs union;
• Turkey as a gateway to markets further afield, including the Central Asian Republics and the Middle 
• UK Trade and Investment’s activity in Turkey;
• Lord Jones’ proposed visit to Turkey in September 2008;
• The proposed UK-Turkey inter-governmental forum, and the role business will play in boosting the           bilateral relationship;
• Specific sectoral issues, including in energy, and in education and training.
