The Speaker has announced that Ruth Evans will be put forward for appointment as Chair of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, for a five year term.
Under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009, the Speaker selects a candidate for the chair of IPSA.
The Act stipulates that the candidate must be recruited on merit on the basis of fair and open competition, and that the choice must be agreed by the Speaker's Committee for the Independent Parliament Standards Authority established under the Act, which happened on 15 March. Dame Denise Platt chaired the independent recruitment panel.
The appointment is made by Her Majesty on an address of the House of Commons. The matter will come before the House later this year.
