COVID-19 Rapid Summary: Contact Tracing and Data Ethics

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee is producing rapid summaries of oral evidence sessions, aimed at providing the public with the latest information on the Science of COVID-19.

Background

This summary covers three evidence panels across Monday 29 June and Monday 6 July, where we heard evidence about contact tracing science and the UK’s strategy for applying it in the current pandemic, as well as data ethics and privacy.

Chair's comments

Chair of the Committee, Lord Patel, said:

"It is clear that a strategy to test, track and isolate cases will play a critical role in control of the pandemic. It is essential that the best advice is used to ensure that the system is designed and implemented properly."
