Privileges and Conduct (Committee for) - Role

Welcome to the Committee for Privileges and Conduct website.

The Committee is chaired by the Chairman of Committees and is made up of sixteen peers, including two former holders of high judicial office.

The Committee considers questions regarding parliamentary privilege. It may also hear disputed peerage claims, and in so doing it sits with three current holders of high judicial office, who enjoy the same speaking and voting rights as members of the committee.

The Committee also oversees the operation of the Code of Conduct and the work of the House of Lords Commissioner for Standards. The Committee’s day to day work in this area is normally delegated to the Sub-Committee on Lords’ Conduct.
