Middle Level Bill Committee - role

The Middle Level Bill Select Committee was appointed on 4 June 2018.

The Select Committee on the Middle Level Bill provides individuals and bodies directly and specially affected by the Bill with the opportunity to object to the Bill and seek its amendment. The Committee sits to hear in an impartial way the arguments and the evidence for and against the Bill. Promoters and Petitioners make their cases; witnesses can be called and cross-examined. The function of the Committee is to decide whether, and in what form, the Bill should proceed. The options are to reject the Bill; amend it; or approve it in unamended form.
