Liz Hewitt was appointed to the Audit Committee as an external member in January 2012. She was appointed as Chairman of the Audit Committee in July 2016, as well as an external member of the House of Lords Commission.
She trained as an accountant and qualified with Arthur Andersen after completing her B.Sc. in Economics at University College London. She worked in the private equity as an investor for Gartmore, CVC and ultimately as Director of one of two London MBO teams for 3i Group plc.
Her career then took her into executive management with 3i Group and Smith & Nephew plc as Group Director of Communications. In these roles she had varied responsibilities including membership of the risk committees. She also spent a year at HM Treasury and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills working on government funding projects.
Her non-executive career began in the 1990s when she became a non-executive director of an NHS Trust, the Consumer Council for British Rail and as the Vice Chairman of the Surrey Police Authority. She was a trustee of Cancer Research UK for nine years and chaired its strategic marketing committee.
Her current non-executive roles are as non-executive director for Melrose Industries plc, Novo Nordisk A/S and Savills plc. On each of these boards she is a member of the audit committees and chairs the Audit Committee for both Novo Nordisk and Savills. She is also a member of the remuneration and nominations committees.
