EU Strategy for Iraq

On 8 February 2018, the Committee considered the Joint Communication on Elements for an EU Strategy for Iraq.

The Committee agreed to hold the item under scrutiny and write to the Rt Hon Sir Alan Duncan MP, to ask a number of questions, including:

  • What decision has been made on the deployment of UK secondees to the mission and whether the mission is fully staffed and operational.
  • How the EU will support "political inclusiveness and a sustained process of reconciliation" and what the Iraqi government's commitment is to this aim.
  • How "targeted good governance support for Iraqi state institutions" would be delivered and what this would entail.
  • How funding from the Madad Fund is being spent in Iraq and how additional funding might be allocated.

The Minister responded to the Committee's letter on 20 March 2018. The Committee wrote back to the Minister on 20 April 2018 clearing the item from scrutiny.
