The Economic Affairs Committee following dissolution

03 May 2017

Parliament was prorogued on 27 April 2017 and formally dissolved on 3 May.

The effect of the dissolution of Parliament is that all committees cease to exist, unless and until they are reappointed at the start of the new Parliament following the general election. In the case of the Economic Affairs Committee, reappointment is likely to be in late June 2017.

In the interim, any inquiries regarding the work of the Economic Affairs Committee may be directed to the clerk. However, staff may not be able to provide substantive answers to questions about specific items of work.

Government responses and debates on reports

The Government is required to respond formally to all the Economics Affairs Committee’s reports, notwithstanding dissolution. Such responses, if not issued before dissolution, will only appear after a new Government is formed following the election.

Motions to debate committee reports will be tabled as appropriate in the new session.
