Committee regrets decision to fast-track Northern Ireland Bill

10 July 2019

The Constitution Committee regrets the Government's decision to fast-track the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Bill

Background

Today the Constitution Committee publishes a report on the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Bill which is currently making its way through Parliament.

The Committee warns that it is 'constitutionally unacceptable' for legislation relating to Northern Ireland to be fast-tracked save for the most exceptional and urgent circumstances, of which this is not.
