Commenting on the Ministerial Statement from Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd entitled "labour market policy update" today Rt Hon Frank Field MP, Chair of the Work and Pensions Committee, said:
‘The Secretary of State faces a Herculean task to ensure that DWP, in every single case, acts in a way that is fit for any family – whether it’s hers or anybody else’s. Today’s announcements are a step in the right direction – gone are the days of those appalling three-year sanctions – and show she has not been put off by the size of that task, but there is still very much to do. The Government is still considering some of our recommendations on sanctions – the Committee stands ready to play its part in proposing additional reforms to strike the right balance.’
