Government's proposed child maintenance reforms

Inquiry status: Inquiry concluded, Report and Government response published

In January 2011 the Department for Work and Pensions published a Green Paper seeking views on the Government’s strategy for reforming the child maintenance system. The Committee’s inquiry looked at the Government’s plans to encourage separating parents to make their own child maintenance arrangements, including the likely impact on parents of the introduction of charges, particularly for poorer or more vulnerable families. The inquiry also considered the availability of mediation and advisory services for parents and the effectiveness of the Child Support Agency in collecting payments from non-resident parents.
