Auto-enrolment and the National Employment Savings Trust

Inquiry concluded and Report published.

From October 2012, every employer will be required to automatically enrol their workers into a qualifying pension scheme and to contribute to their pension. This inquiry looked at the Government’s strategy for introducing this reform, including the impact on businesses and the extent to which the policy will increase participation in pension saving. The inquiry also examined the restrictions that the Government placed on the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST), the low-cost pension scheme created by the Government to help deliver auto-enrolment. The Committee’s report was published in March 2012.
