Following an independent review in 2017, the Committee will consider the remit, funding and governance of S4C in a one-off session on Tuesday 18 December.

Important recommendations made in earlier review

The independent review, carried out by Euryn Ogwen Williams, recommended that S4C take steps to ensure it is keeping pace with important technological and digital developments, restructure its governance and instigate a “culture shift” within the organisation. The review expressed concern that without implementing these changes, S4C might not continue to effectively promote the Welsh language and Welsh culture and society.

Purpose of the session

The Committee will question Huw Jones, Chair of the S4C Authority – the independent body responsible for the provision of Welsh language television programme services – and Owen Evans, Chief Executive of S4C, on S4C’s progress in implementing the recommendations, and what legislation is needed to ensure the changes are made.
