John Mann MP appointed interim Treasury Committee Chair

03 September 2019

Following the appointment of the former Chair of the Treasury Committee, Rt Hon. Nicky Morgan MP, as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Speaker announced in July that there would be an election for the new Chair of the Committee.

The Speaker suggested that the election could take place in the second week of the September sitting, although no dates have been officially confirmed.

Members of the Treasury Committee have appointed John Mann MP to serve as interim Chair until a new Chair has been elected. This will include chairing the Committee’s scheduled evidence session with the Bank of England on Wednesday 4 September.

Chair's comments

Commenting on the announcement, John Mann MP, Interim Chair of the Treasury Committee, said:

“As the 31st October deadline draws ever-closer, the Committee will take evidence from the Bank of England to examine preparations for Brexit, as well as its most recent Inflation Report."
