Report on Implications of the Dame Laura Cox report approved

09 January 2019

The House of Commons approved the Fifth Report of the Committee on Standards relating to Implications of the Dame Laura Cox report, on 7 January 2019.

The changes agreed by the House mean that lay members of the Committee on Standards will now have equal voting rights with MPs on the Committee.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards will also no longer need to consult the Committee before beginning an inquiry relating to events more than seven years earlier, before beginning an inquiry relating to a former MP, or before referring issues to the Police.

The requirement for complaints against MPs to be submitted in hard copy has also been abolished, so that email submission is equally acceptable.
