09 March 2017

The Science and Technology Committee hold a one-off evidence session on Setting up UK Research and Innovation: The Chief Executive role

Wednesday 15 March 2017, Committee Room 16, Palace of Westminster

At 9.45am

  • Professor Sir Mark Walport, Chief Executive Designate, UK Research and Innovation
  • Rebecca Endean, Director, Research and Innovation Reform, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Purpose of the session

The Committee previously took oral evidence from Sir John Kingman (the interim Chair of UKRI) in October 2016. It published its 'Setting up UK Research & Innovation' report in December 2016, setting out issues for the incoming CEO. On 2 February 2017, BEIS announced Sir Mark Walport’s appointment as Chief Executive Designate of UKRI.

The session today provides an opportunity for the Committee to hear Sir Mark’s priorities for his new role and to follow up issues from its earlier report.
