Academics and think-tanks questioned about strategic thinking in government

This will be the Committee’s second evidence session of its Inquiry into Strategic Thinking in Government and will take evidence from two panels of think-tank and academic representatives.

The Rt Hon Peter Riddell, Director of the Institute for Government and Jill Rutter, Programme Director at the Institute for Government will make up the first panel, with evidence from Professor John Kay, visiting Professor at London School of Economics, and David Steven, River Path Associates in the second panel.

The Committee will take the views of the witnesses on how governments should act strategically in a complex and uncertain world. Particular issues to be explored may include:

  • International examples of strategic policy-making;
  • the capacity for strategic thinking in Whitehall; and
  • the role of social media and activities such as crowd sourcing in developing strategy and understanding the national interest.
