Pre-appointment hearing: First Civil Service Commissioner and Commissioner for Public Appointments

PASC (the Public Administration Select Committee) held a pre-appointment hearing on Tuesday 16 November, examining the professional competence and personal independence of the Government's preferred candidate for the dual post of First Civil Service Commissioner and Commissioner for Public Appointments, Sir David Normington KCB.

Sir David was the permanent secretary at the Home Office. He was previously permanent secretary at the Department for Education and Skills from 2001 to 2005. Sir David has also held a variety of other civil service posts.
