Policy Profession examined in Civil Service Leadership inquiry

14 December 2018

The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee questions the Head of the Civil Service Policy Profession and Permanent Secretary at the Department for Health and Social Care, Sir Chris Wormald. Purpose of the Session

In this session, the Committee will focus on the work of the Civil Service Policy Profession, an initiative to professionalise policy-making within the Civil Service and to encourage consistency in working practices across Government departments.

Areas the Committee is expected to consider include the activities that the Policy Profession currently undertakes to promote better policy-making across departments, the extent to which policy-making in the civil service can truly be professionalised, and how civil servants can develop policy professionally in a highly political environment.
