Public Accounts Committee Chair Meg Hillier MP has commented on today’s National Audit Office report, Handling of the Windrush situation.
NAO report: Handling of the Windrush situation
The Committee Chair, Meg Hillier MP, comments
"The Home Office’s careless implementation of its compliant environment policy has had a distressing impact on those of the Windrush generation who have been unfairly treated.
The impact has been immense and much wider for those caught up in it – losing jobs; homes and in some cases being unable to return home to the UK.
It is shocking that the Home Office is not proactively reviewing other Commonwealth nationals’ cases and has not yet established the full extent of the problems.
The Home Office needs to identify those affected, clarify the terms of its compensation scheme and carry out a wider review of its systems and processes to prevent this happening again."
