Concern over auction for electricity generation contracts

16 May 2018

Public Accounts Committee Chair Meg Hillier MP has commented on today’s National Audit Office investigation into the 2017 auction for low-carbon electricity generation contracts.

The Committee Chair, Meg Hillier MP, comments:

"The rules the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy set for the auction of Contracts for Difference have cost the consumer an extra £1.5bn, and only a small amount of the extra money will be used to generate additional energy capacity.

Once again the Department has neglected to put the interests of service users at the forefront of its thinking."
