Ministers questioned on Brexit and the scrutiny of delegated legislation

The Procedure Committee examines how delegated legislation is scrutinised, as set out in the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill.

The Committee will take evidence from the Leader of the House of Commons, Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP, and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union, Steve Baker MP.

Evidence will also be taken from the SNP’s Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, Pete Wishart MP.  Shadow Ministers from the Official Opposition will give evidence to the Committee on a date to be announced.

What will be examined

The initial focus of the inquiry is on the power to enact delegated legislation claimed by the Government in Clauses 7, 8 and 9 of the bill, and the procedures for Parliamentary scrutiny set out in Schedule 7 to the Bill.
