Purpose of the session

This week, the House of Commons passed an amendment indicating its support for "alternative arrangements" to the Irish backstop. The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee questions the Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary on Labour's views on the options for renegotiating the backstop, and how Labour is seeking to influence the course of events.

The inquiry

The Committee's inquiry into the implications of the withdrawal agreement and backstop for Northern Ireland is responding to rapidly changing Brexit developments. The Committee is seeking to hear a wide range of views on the way forward in the Brexit negotiations and how Northern Ireland’s voice can be heard in the process.
