In the first oral evidence session of the inquiry, the Committee will explore progress towards the Government’s first Voluntary National Review on the SDGs, which it will present to the UN in July.
Purpose of the session
The Committee will take evidence from domestic and international-facing NGO coalitions to gather their views on the VNR process so far, the effectiveness of cross-government cooperation and their views on the Government’s ‘Emerging Findings’ of its contribution to the Goals at home and overseas. The Committee will then take evidence from two departmental ‘Champions’ for the VNR process, from the Departments for Work and Pensions and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. It will look to explore the role of these Champions and how they are supporting the VNR process – and the achievement of the SDGs more widely - within and across departments.
