Scope of the inquiry
Last July, the International Development Committee concluded that sexual exploitation and abuse in the aid sector exists across organisations, countries and institutions.
In October 2018, DFID hosted an international safeguarding summit to bring actors from across the sector together to tackle the problem. In this follow-up evidence session, the Committee invited representatives from the private sector and the NGO sector to take stock of the progress that has been made since the October Summit.
The Committee heard from the DFID Safeguarding Unit and the new Secretary of State on how DFID has been advancing both its own commitments on safeguarding, and the commitments of the organisations that it funds, and how it will ensure that momentum is sustained.
