International Development Committee
Report and Government Response published
The International Development Committee has published the Report into the Definition and administration of Official Development Assistance (ODA) and found that aid delivered under the Prosperity Fund is insufficiently focused on the poorest. The Government has committed to spending increasing amounts of ODA outside the Department for International Development (DFID) claiming that this will engage other departments’ skills, expertise and networks. Regardless of whether ODA is delivered by DFID or other departments, Ministers must ensure it is delivered to a consistently high standard.
Evidence given by Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP, Secretary of State for International Development, and Darren Welch, Director of Strategy, Department for International Development.
Evidence given by Harriett Baldwin MP, Minister of State, and Liane Saunders, Strategy Director, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sam Gyimah MP, Minister of State, and Dr Sharon Ellis, Director of International Science and Innovation, Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Jean Christophe Gray, Director, Public Services, HM Treasury (at 3.15pm).
Evidence given by Harpinder Collacott, Executive Director, Development Initiatives, and Amy Dodd, Director, UK Aid Network; Blondel Cluff CBE, Representative to the United Kingdom and European Union, Government of Anguilla (at 10.30am); Brenda Killen, Deputy Director, OECD Development Co-operation Directorate (at 11.00am).
There are currently no public meetings scheduled.
