Government response to Unaccompanied child migrants report published

22 December 2017

The Home Affairs Committee publishes the Government Response to the report on Unaccompanied child migrants, published in March 2017 by the Home Affairs Committee in the previous Parliament.

Government’s response completely inadequate

Chair of the Committee, Yvette Cooper MP, on publication of Government response to report on unaccompanied child migrants:

"The Government’s response to our interim report on unaccompanied children is completely inadequate. Contrary to speedily delivering the Dubs scheme, less than half the places councils offered at the beginning of the year have been filled even though unaccompanied refugee children are spending another winter in camps or other unsuitable shelters in Greece and Italy. All the Government's commitments to tackle modern slavery look hollow when they are still resisting implementing a scheme to prevent teenagers being exploited and trafficked in Europe. This remains a policy failure by the Home Secretary and the Committee will revisit this issue in the future."
