The Home Affairs Committee have released figures collated by the Home Office on the number of migrant crossings across the English Channel on small boats. The figures in the attached letter show the number of incidences, number of migrants involved and responding agency over a 14 month period between 1 January 2018 and 28 February 2019.
The data indicates that "HMS Mersey (3 January 2019 to 21 January 2019) and HMS Enterprise (21 January 2019 to 10 February 2019) operated in the English Channel under a MACA arrangement but were not the primary lead on an interception".
The information was requested during the Home Affairs Committee hearing of 27 February 2019, with Home Secretary Sajid Javid MP and Permanent Secretary to the Home Office, Sir Philip Rutnam. A transcript of the session is available here.
