The Health and Social Care Committee will be questioning representatives of the Nursing and Midwifery Council next month on its handling of concerns about midwives' fitness to practise at Furness General Hospital.
The session will take place on Tuesday 17 July from 2.30pm. The Committee will hear from Philip Graf, Chair of the NMC, Jackie Smith, Chief Executive and Registrar, and Matthew McClelland, Director of Fitness to Practise.
The hearing follows the publication of the Professional Standards Authority’s Lessons Learned review, which looked particularly at matters of patient protection and the NMC’s communications with families, including the NMC’s handling of recent subject access and freedom of information requests. The Committee’s questioning is expected to focus on matters arising from that review.
The hearing will be held in public in a committee room at Westminster: details will be confirmed in the week before the session takes place.
Written submissions are not being sought ahead of this session: anyone who would like to bring any matters to the attention of the Committee before the hearing takes place is invited to contact the Clerk of the Committee at email@example.com.
