Committee questions Secretary of State on no-deal preparations ahead of October deadline

15 July 2019

Purpose of the session

In this session, the Committee will focus on the role of the Department for Exiting the European Union in preparing for the parliamentary timetable faced by the Government in the run-up to the 31 October deadline; preparations for a potential no-deal departure and the contents of the recently-published UK Government ‘mapping exercise’ examining North-South cooperation on the island of Ireland.

The Committee is also expected to consider the imminent arrival of a new UK Prime Minister and appointment of new heads of European institutions, and to what extent they may affect the prospects of renegotiating the Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration on the future relationship.
