Committee question Secretary of State ahead of second meaningful vote

Stephen Barclay MP
08 March 2019

The Committee on Exiting the European Union returns with an evidence session on Tuesday 12 March, part of its over-arching inquiry examining the progress of the UK’s negotiations on EU withdrawal.

Purpose of the session

In this rescheduled session, the Committee will hear from the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Stephen Barclay.

The Committee is expected to question the Secretary of State about his recent discussions with the European Commission’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier, ahead of a second ‘meaningful vote’ on the draft Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration due to take place on Tuesday 12 March.

The Committee will also seek an update from the Secretary of State on to what extent the Government continues to prepare for a no-deal scenario; as well as the possibility of an extension to the Article 50 process.
