The European Scrutiny Committee's weekly report looks into a European Directive seeking to improve cross-border law enforcement.
Concerns raised on decision-making autonomy
A European Directive is being considered by the UK Government which seeks to improve cross-border law enforcement access to financial information and analysis to support the investigation and prosecution of serious crime. The directive is one of the weekly summary of EU documents that have been looked at by the European Scrutiny Committee.
The UK can opt in to the directive but there are concerns about possible encroachment on the decision-making autonomy of Financial Intelligence Units and the tight time limits for intra-EU exchanges of information.
