03 May 2019

The Education Committee hears from East Sussex County Council and the London Borough of Newham on the approach of different councils to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Witnesses

Wednesday 8 May in Committee Room 15, Palace of Westminster

At 10am

  • Stuart Gallimore, Director of Children's Services, East Sussex County Council [written evidence here and here]
  • Terry Reynolds, Director for Education and Skills, London Borough of Newham [written evidence here]

Purpose of the session

The Committee previously held a session with local authorities in February. This second hearing will be a further chance to explore the approach of different councils to supporting children with SEND and to follow-up on some of the evidence already heard during the inquiry.

The inquiry

The SEND inquiry is examining the success of the Government's 2014 reforms to the SEND system. It is exploring how they have been implemented, and what impact they are having in meeting the challenges faced by children and young people with SEND.
