Further Education Commissioner questioned on challenges facing colleges

Role of FE Commissioner

The role of FE Commissioner was established in 2013 to lead the Government’s work in boosting the quality of further education provision in England.

MPs are likely to ask Mr Atkins, who has been in post since October 2016, about challenges facing colleges, the Commissioner’s powers of intervention and how further education contributes to improving social justice.

The hearing with the FE Commissioner will be followed by a session with former Social Mobility Commission Chair Alan Milburn and former Commissioners Baroness Shephard and David Johnston.
