Ofcom Chair Pre-appointment hearing with Lord Burns

The Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee holds a pre-appointment hearing for the Government’s preferred candidate for the new Chair of the media regulator Ofcom, Lord Burns. Once approved by the Committee he would replace Dame Patricia Hodgson in January 2018.

Focus of the session

MPs use the opportunity to ask Lord Burns about, amongst other issues, the regulation of the BBC (for which Ofcom recently took responsibility), the Fox/Sky merger, the potential relocation of Channel 4 and the impact of Brexit on the sector.

Lord Burns has had a distinguished career in public life including the chairmanship of Channel 4 for six years between 2009-2015.
