The Communities and Local Government Committee invites those who contributed to the Councillors on the Frontline inquiry to comment on the Government response.

Following publication of the Government's response to its report, Councillors on the Frontline, the Committee is inviting those who contributed to the inquiry to comment on the Government's response.

Chair's comments

Clive Betts MP, Chair of the Communities and Local Government Committee, said:

"Throughout the inquiry, we were keen to hear the views of those interested in the future of local democracy. We wanted to gauge the opinion not just of the usual contributors to select committee inquiries, but of those we would not normally hear from. The hosting of an innovative discussion forum allowed us, for example, to understand more fully why people from a range of backgrounds chose to stand or not stand for local election.

Now we want to know what these people think of the Government's response. I have this week written to the Chairman of the Local Government Association, Sir Merrick Cockell, seeking his views, but I want all those who contributed to our inquiry to have their say. Please send us your personal evaluation of the Government response, and tell us the extent to which it addresses the issues you raised with us.  We want to know what you really think."

Those wishing to submit comments on the Government response should send them to  by Friday 12 April 2013.

The Committee hopes to publish the responses it receives on its website.
