The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the administration, expenditure and policy of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and its associated public bodies. It is chaired by Rachel Reeves MP.
On 14 July, the Prime Minister announced that elements of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills would merge with the Department for Energy and Climate Change to become the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. On 11 October 2016, the House of Commons Standing Orders governing the committee structure were amended to allow the Committee to be renamed in order to reflect this change.
The Committee was renamed on 17 October 2016 with the same membership as the previous Business, Innovation and Skills Committee. The remit of the Committee reflects the responsibilities of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and includes such issues as business regulation and corporate governance, energy and climate change (formerly covered by the Energy and Climate Change Committee), and science and innovation.
BEIS brings together responsibilities for business, industrial strategy, science, innovation, energy and climate change. BEIS is a ministerial department, supported by 47 agencies and public bodies.
BEIS is supported by a wide range of partner organisations in delivering its strategic priorities. Our partners provide services, information and advice to the Department and directly to a wide range of people and organisations.
