Work Experience at the House of Commons

Due to the unforeseen impact of Covid-19, the House of Commons has not been able to take on any new students for our Work Experience Scheme 2021/22.

We may have some updates in late 2022 so please keep an eye on this page for further information.

In the meantime you can view our current vacancies on the House of Commons Careers Portal.

Application Process

When applications open, students will be able to apply on the House of Commons Careers Portal.

We encourage students to apply early if they are interested in participating in The Work Experience Scheme. Students will be asked to complete an application form outlining their interest in Parliament and those who are successful at this stage will be offered a Work Experience Placement.

We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, faith, ethnicity, race, gender identity, marital status, sex, sexual identity, caring responsibilities, and socio-economic background.

Our Values

We’re proud of our organisational values, and we’re looking for people who can bring them to life:

  • Inclusive: We value everyone equally. We respect each other and all have a voice.
  • Courageous: We try new things. We own our actions and decisions and learn from our mistakes.
  • Trusted: We trust each other to do a good job. We’re impartial and build confidence in Parliament through our integrity.
  • Collaborative: We share our knowledge and experience. We work towards a shared vision and know we work better in partnership.

Our commitment in return is to build a culture which is inclusive and enables people from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels to join us.
