Protection of Birds Bill, 1966

Tufton Beamish was passionate about nature conservation, and was heavily involved with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). His involvement with wildlife conservation causes would prove to be one of his most long lasting achievements as MP for Lewes.

In 1966 Beamish was a vocal supporter of the Protection of Birds Bill, which amended the terms of the Protection of Birds Act, 1954 with which he had been heavily involved. The Bill began in the House of Lords and arrived in the House of Commons in November 1966. It received Royal Assent on 13 July 1967.
