'War speeches', William Dixon's notebook
Until recently Hansard reporters used shorthand to record proceedings in the Chamber. This notebook belonged to William Dixon (1893-1979), who said in “Our Hansard” (1950) that the Hansard reporter's shorthand notebook “contains a unique record of Parliament…No one else has so complete a record”. These images show the cover of the notebook and his note of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's statement on 3 September 1939 declaring war with Germany.
