The Air Raid, May 1941

Artist Paul Day is primarily a sculptor, known for his unusual approach to perspective. This work depicts the crowded effort to shift the tons of rubble left behind after the destruction of the Common's Chamber. Men in armed forces uniforms work together to shift huge beams, overseen by anonymous men in coats.

This work is one of six scenes completed by Day, each depicting key events in Parliament's history.
