The Speaker on May's appointment as Clerk

The Speaker of the House at the time of May's appointment to the Clerkship was John Evelyn Denison. This letter highlights the amiable relationship between them while also emphasising how respected May was amongst his peers. Many commentators had at the time noted the ease with which May moved in political society in which Denison was a very influential figure.
