Ross is Reader in Contemporary Art at Glasgow School of Art, and has shown in the UK, Europe, the USA, Japan, Korea and Australia. He explores the possibilities of public engagement, with particular attention to individual and collective identity, as well as ideas surrounding democracy and utopia.
In 1994, Ross had the words ‘Real Life’ tattooed on his back—an idea he has explored in various projects. For the 2013 Edinburgh Art Festival, he flooded the city with over 45,000 artifacts in Real Life and How to Live it in Auld Reekie, exploring its complex identity with billboards, shopping bags, badges, records, beermats, posters, banners, dibond signs etc.
