  • Description: Stuart Pearson Wright a British painter working in a figurative tradition studied at Slade School of Fine Art where his work was met with mixed feelings where the current vogue was for conceptualism rather than the grand tradition of British figurative painting. In 1998 Pearson Wright won the BP travel award from which a commission to paint the past presidents of the Royal Academy came which went on to win first prize in the BP Portrait Award 2001.'There are obvious ascendants to his work of Flemish painters and in the British romantic tradition. But, like the best painters of the past, he draws on an inherited tradition, while at the same time producing work of great originality.' Charles Saumarez Smith (National Gallery)

On her election in 1987 Diane Abbott became the first black woman Member of Parliament. Tony Banks MP, Chairman of The Speaker's Advisory Committee on Art, said at the unveiling on 10 May 2004 'This will prove to be an historic portrait of a contemporary Member of Parliament. As the first black woman MP. Diane Abbott's membership of the House is an important event in the history of Parliament'.
